I READ the article written by Charlotte Richardson in your December 8 issue and it is sad that accidents appear to have increased. The way the first paragraph reads and implies is that the speed cameras are responsible.I have driven around three quarters of a million miles in my life which at my age equates to around 14,000 a year. I have obviously missed something in my life because I have not yet seen one of these speed cameras driving a car. I have however seen many cars driven by men and women without consideration for the distance between them and the vehicle in front. Do you think that may just be part of the problem and not speed cameras? Is it just possible that the £4m is the sum of money collected from all those people who have broken the law?I hate speed cameras, along with the rest of the driving public, but let each and every one of us who drives accept responsibility for our actions and stop blaming inanimate objects for our problems Perhaps the press should also consider their position and stop aiding and abetting in their articles.JOHN ELLISThe Lynch, Winscombe
