I AM writing regarding the article in last week's Weston Mercury about the dire state of the road at Wakedean Gardens, Yatton. In the article Councillor Ap Rees says nothing ever went through council concerning the possibility of the council pre-funding repairs to our roads. No-one has ever claimed that our proposals had gone as far as requiring council approvals.Prior to this year's elections, councillors from the previous administration told us money was available to pre-fund the work and that, once we obtained a mandate from the residents to proceed, there was a will within the council for this to proceed. At the time, this was confirmed and reported in the Mercury. What has happened therefore is that, with the change of administration, the will to assist the residents of Wakedean Gardens is no longer there. This despite the Conservative party manifesto indicating they were to "campaign for the regeneration of estates". Apparently this part of the manifesto does not apply in North Somerset.TIM VICKERY - Secretary, Wakedean Gardens Residents Association
