More houses

I read with great disappointment your front page article 'Plug to be pulled', and then went on to read, not just on the open air pool, but possibly Somerset Hall, Avon Way Hall and Slade Road Hall. Every month a new application for more houses appears in the council notices - more houses, more people, mostly families. Amenities for these, and the existing residents,? Threats of closure! Our town and North Somerset councillors have, a duty of care to their electorate, not just to let them down every time the national builders demand more units. It is called planning gain, and unless my fellow residents, you wonder what this is, it is a negotiated 'exchange of agreed actions' that enables amenities such as we read of, to be assisted by the builders in exchange for their precious planning applications. As a voluntary youth worker, I know that our youngsters would support and revel in a multi-functional style operation in the pool unit, and most importantly give them a long needed 'place of their own'.Come on councillors go to the builders and support your electorate - remember, we put you where you are, believing your 'electioneering ideals of the time'. What really is your vision - houses, more houses, an apartment block masquerading as a library? Heaven help us as we look at our town in five years time. Money just doesn't come from central Government, it also comes from 'Business in the Community', developers, etc. Let us hope your future headlines can reflect the 'noble cause of, councillors looking after their own'!M Henwood - Resident of a 'Dying Town'
