Move too big and too costly

I AM adding my voice to the groundswell against the outrageous decision from North Somerset Council to purchase the Clevedon site and send hundreds of the workforce out of Weston.

Even if we are to believe the argument that this will save around 64,000 a year, it is a spurious one. We all know that figures can be massaged to give a semblance of truth whilst masking the real picture.

For an authority which has recently lost millions in the Icelandic bank saga (and which according to recent reports may not now ever see the light of day) the move to borrow millions to purchase the Clevedon offices is suspect to say the least.

What and who is behind this? I don't think we can take things at face value. This decision clearly flies in the face of the many ethical and common sense issues which residents and workers have recently voiced.

And we must not forget that Weston is the principal town in North Somerset - after all the Town Hall is here.

I have no objection, and would support a presence by the council around the area - however this is a move too big, too costly and the abuse of power being wielded in the council chamber must be curtailed.
