YEARS ago when I was freelancing and the Mercury was a broadsheet, I wrote to the then editor suggesting I would be prepared to investigate and write an article on some of Weston's cafes and restaurants.

I did so because through various channels I was being fed information about the state of their kitchens and other parts of the premises.
My request was quickly refused on the grounds of insufficient space. A few of the places I had in mind were regular advertisers with the Mercury. Enough said.
Can you imagine, then, my delight as I read last week's Mercury front page headline 'Disgusting?' - and page three's 'Named and Shamed?' It was like music to my ears.
A superb piece of exclusive reporting. Congratulations to the Mercury. More of the same please. How times have changed, and the Mercury.
