In response to the article, 'Pool Plans Evaporating' (North Somerset Times May 9), Nailsea Swimming Pool Interest Group makes the following reply:1. We have never misled anyone regarding the proposed swimming pool in Nailsea.2. We have never requested Nailsea Town Council to fund the project.3. We believe any community has the right to make plans for its future, no matter how difficult this may be to achieve.4. We expect reasonable encouragement from councillors and council officers. Inappropriate dissuasion is unacceptable.5. We wish to resume purposeful discussions with North Somerset Council as soon as possible. For many years we have explored the possibility of getting a new swimming pool. This goes back to the Nailsea Millennium Committee in 1998, following a public expression of interest. Since then we have conducted extensive discussions with North Somerset Council, in a reasonable and democratic manner. Broadly, the response to date has been polite dismissal, with no constructive plan or policy by the council. Meanwhile, Backwell pool has spiralled into an economic and environmental decline through lack of real investment. Public money and precious environmental resources are increasingly being wasted. We shall continue to campaign for improved public swimming facilities. The record of our endeavour extends from 1998 to the local elections of 2003, and more recently to the newly-elected council. Indications are hopeful, according to the election pamphlets - we shall see!Chairman N A Tucker Secretary T B WoodbridgeTreasurer I E Mottram
