The skateboard park and play area at the Millennium Park, Nailsea, are very well used by young people. The adjacent recreation field is also a popular location for ball games, etc. An accessible swimming pool would be a natural attraction, especially during the school holidays. In addition to this, other groups including schools, elderly and disabled people would make good use of this facility. Positive marketing could attract visitors, supermarket customers and the commercial population of Nailsea. Combined with modern design and energy efficiency, a new aqua centre could be a viable flagship project for the community.Nailsea deserves such a boost. Outline planning permission for the pool has been obtained as a practical demonstration of public intent, but an inflexible and preconceived response from North Somerset Council has consistently sidetracked progress. This bureaucracy has also ignored strong public requests to improve swimming facilities and the pleas of more than 400 children waiting for swimming lessons. The cliche 'achievement through partnership' has lost credibility, but the interest group will continue to campaign for a new pool.N A Tucker - Valley Close, Nailsea
