In response to Judith Carr's letter published in the North Somerset Times February 28 edition, can I respectfully point out that statements such as 'against the wishes of almost all the town' are inaccurate and misleading.I don't usually have the time to write to newspapers but Dr Carr's letter and the one entitled 'Shocked' were so negative I had to put pen to paper.I have had enough of serial complainers such as Dr Carr criticising my town. If Portishead is now 'little more than a vast, traffic congested building site', may I suggest she moves to a town more suitable to her requirements, or, as the Rev Brian M Cave suggests, stand as a candidate in the forthcoming elections.Portishead is a wonderful place to live. Developments such as Port Marine and the Village Quarter are just what Portishead needs (has Dr Carr been there lately?) and it is great to see the high street bustling again. I was born in Portishead in the 1960s and have seen it turn from a dull, dying town in the 1990s to the thriving, community-spirited town it is today. I am proud to live here and would like to point out to anyone moving into Portishead that the depressing, soul-destroying letters which regularly appear on the pages of the various local newspapers certainly do not represent the views of all the townspeople. Yes, we need a skatepark and a new library and I agree that the lake grounds need a facelift and that junction 19 should be improved. However, the Cabstand lights work well for me and redevelopment of Worthingtons seems like a great idea. People like Dr Carr need to move with the times; change is not always a bad thing.A Portishead fan - Name and e-mail address supplied
