WHEN it was first announced North Somerset Council had decided to redevelop Dolphin Square, Weston, I wrote to you, as when Dolphin Square was first created the council at the time destroyed an integral part of historic Weston. They are now considering yet another folly and proposing to erect another Silica-type structure. Will this be yet another total waste of public money? The present monstrosity has created an area that is dirty and could be a possible health hazard. If North Somerset Council is convinced this area has to be redeveloped, and it has to be as the developers have virtually obtained the rights of all of the buildings, why not consider building the new large stores we hear Weston needs and they are considering building on the Italian Gardens? It is appreciated Weston has to move with the times, but with the on-going Tropicana fiasco do we want yet another derelict area that Dolphin Square could become while the planners get their act together?GEOFF BEAVEN - South Lawn Close, Weston
