I COULD not understand how with many thousands against the plans for the Tropicana they were passed. I do now. I went to a planning meeting at the Town Hall, I was to speak on behalf of the elderly residents of Chestnut Close to object to an extension and increased student numbers next door. After their coffee and sandwiches the debates start, much later on, summing up, the councillors passed the massive extension at Bristol Airport and even told them they didn't need planning permission. Next they agreed another extension to Cadbury Country Club even though it was on greenbelt land. Then at last at 8.20pm and even more coffee and sandwiches our case came up, it lasted 60 seconds. No mention of the parties and loud music, the verbal abuse or the students blocking our road with their cars. Even our local councillor passed it. He did suggest that they asked the owner to tell students to be quiet, much to the amusement of the chair! In what other job could you vote yourself massive wage rises, have endless free coffee and sandwiches, ignore any public protests and at the stroke of a pen ruin so many lives?EDWARD (TED) CLARK - Chestnut Close, Congresbury
