I READ with interest on the North Somerset Council, website that the cost of the winter salting programme is about 80p per household.
Whilst some may believe that the 80p per household represents good value for money, here in the untreated island of Weston Village it feels as if we are completely overlooked by the council and our council tax does not buy us the services we expect.
With not a gritting bin in sight and the main road through the community closed, rather than being treated, it is high time the executives got off their backsides and went out into their authority and saw the impact of their short-sighted policies.
The council have issued many press releases this week telling us about their gritting process, but why have they not been more proactive?
Couldn't the refuse collection teams be tasked to treat school playgrounds and paths to reduce the financial and educational impact of the snow?
What about giving salt to parish councils in rural areas so that they can organise pavement clearing?
They could even experiment with using beach sand to treat minor roads - anything is better than nothing.
Makes you wonder what would happen in our county in a real emergency.
