MY congratulations to the Somerset edition of the Mercury for a well presented article on disputed access to "the football field". The field is now fenced off and I must admit the site looks very tidy and neat. It remains to be seen how long this will last. However this area is still not being used for anything, therefore I wonder why it has been deemed necessary to block this access completely at this stage. It appears the trustees are trying to prove a point and mean-mindedness seems to be the only reason I can come up with.It will be interesting to watch the future progress of this designated area. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to Shipham's dog owners and no-dog-owners alike who have used this area to my knowledge for at least the last 20 years, as it now seems I have made a sad situation even sadder.GILL YEO - Beech Road, Shipham
