The Severn Estuary is not the Zuider Zee. Rather than protecting against flooding, such a barrage and at that site, according to at least one professional, is likely to cause, rather than prevent, flooding. The Government is currently investigating five schemes. The chances are that all, including the Brean to Lavernock barrage, could be ruled out.
