I REFER to my letter published in your January 10 edition: "Historic local authorities were merged". Based on the numerous messages I have received I believe the views I expressed are recognised by many people, the majority of whom feel the whole present system of local government has forfeited people's trust. There is however one point I wish corrected. My letter as submitted said: "We now have a generation of full-time councillors the majority who have never held down a proper job in their lives". The letter as published left out the word 'majority' and which has in my opinion and quite rightly upset those councillors who have in the past and currently hold down jobs outside the council chamber.GARETH JONES - Winscombe* Editor's Note: The omission of 'majority' was unintended and we apologise accordingly.
