THE debate on waste and recycling centres around Cllr Yamanaka as the executive member responsible. On a similar issue, I've just returned from a holiday in France and Belgium. It's only natural to compare Weston, where I have lived for over 40 years, with Europe. The streets there I found to be clean, and in good repair. Recycling seems to be taken very seriously. I don't think our streets here are ever cleaned properly, rubbish remains for weeks and weeks and dogs' mess can be found everywhere! It's a disgrace and you risk injury as you walk along cracked pavements. When I was a councillor I managed to get some pavements re-surfaced in Central Ward, but it was always a battle.JOHN CARTER - Addicott Road, Weston
