I WOULD like to begin by extending my heartfelt thanks to all the many hundreds of local residents who have contacted us expressing their support for our regeneration ideas for the Tropicana.

This has truly been overwhelming and a humbling experience to realise how many local people support us in this difficult project.

It is our intention to provide the residents of North Somerset with a first-class swimming and leisure facility on an enhanced and re-vitalised Tropicana site. Of course as local residents ourselves, we are strongly committed to the long-term regeneration of Weston.

Our development plan, known as 'COAST' will, we hope, capture the residents' imagination and be of benefit to North Somerset for many years to come.

It is our view, however, that this will only take place with the continued, enthusiastic backing of the local community. North Somerset Council also must be convinced that these are the overall wishes of the residents. A ground swell of public opinion, we believe, is the only way forward.

Can I, therefore, please urge all those individuals who have contacted us and everyone else who shares our commitment, to rally support and write to their local councillor, sending a copy of their letters to the Weston Mercury so that there can be no misunderstanding about the strength of residents' feelings and their commitment to the re-vitalisation of Weston's seafront.

Once again, a very big thank you to everyone who has contacted us.
