NORTH Somerset Council now accepts plastic at its recycling centre, but only plastic of a certain kind. The cost of this facility is £50,000 per year, with more funding required to extend the service to more sites. Now the only drawback is people must take the plastics to the site themselves. Whilst a large number wish, 'maybe' to comply, what about the elderly, disabled, etc., who have no means of transport to the site? At the moment the council does not have a collection scheme for the many types of plastic that exist as the cost would be in excess of £1m. So, are supermarkets, indeed all shops, cutting back on the use of plastic packaging? If not, why not? The bottom line is the customer and council taxpayer will no doubt foot the bill.P J MAIN - Axe Close, Weston
