FOLLOWING the tragic fire on the Grand Pier, it is heartening to see how the community has rallied round and sent a strong positive message to the rest of the world that we are still in business and mean to get the pier restored and fully open as soon as possible.Strange as it may sound, I have seldom been more proud to call myself a Westonian. But I want to offer one cautionary note. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the council and I'm here to help.'I would make just one plea to all those in the Town Hall who are, or who think they should be, charged with 'helping' restore the pier: let the Michael family get on with it.MIKE BELL - Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Weston
