THE article on post offices at risk published in the Mercury of December 22 following an interview with Cllr Bell was somewhat misleading. Whilst the Government has announced its intention to close some 2,500 post offices throughout the country, no list has been agreed or published at this stage. We must question why only five offices were named out of potentially 15 in our area. Could it be that some brownie points are being sought for 'saving' post offices that are unlikely to be listed for closure? The headline implies the named offices are more at risk than others. It has resulted in unsettling the senior members of our community and they are already panicking and questioning where they will have to go to collect their money.THE POSTMASTERS OF WINSCOMBE AND BANWELL POST OFFICES
