NORTH Somerset Council is proposing to cut £94,000 of grants to voluntary organisations including £15,000 funding to VANS (Volunteer Agency North Somerset). These cuts will have a potentially disastrous effect on the voluntary sector. Many small groups rely on grants and advice from VANS and the community development team. And they in turn bring in further funds from elsewhere, not to mention all the work done for nothing by countless volunteers. Is this council so short-sighted as not to see they are shooting themselves in the foot? We would be lost without the voluntary sector. I strongly urge councillors to change their minds before this town falls into complete chaos and grinds to a halt completely.REV GEOFF EALES - Via email
