REFERENCE the recent letter with a councillor quoting £10,000 to remove a boat wreck from the River Pill at Uphill, I suggest it could be accomplished for £10. If it is a wooden or glass fibre hull, burn it in situ. Pour petrol on it and set it alight. Then get a local scrap dealer to pick the meal work out of the ashes, which should include the engine, prop shaft, brass or bronze prop, anchor and deck railings (if any) and as scrap is at a premium he can take his costs out of the price he gets for their scrap value. The £10 is the price of the petrol and a box of firelighters. If it's a metal hull, negotiate with a local boatman to tow it out to sea and sink it in deep water. That should not cost a fortune either. ALAN CHILCOTT - Brendon Avenue, Weston
