Regarding the article about public toilets being closed down.Toilets are an essential for basic necessities of life. Shut down toilets and you put tourists off from coming to an area which has no facilities. As for local businesses and shops, they should follow the American way - that is for every office, shop and supermarket to have toilet facilities available to the general public.England is already far behind the American way of life, except for the health system which is tops. But everything else we lag far behind. We need to move into the 21st century. Shutting down toilet facilities is not the way forward. It is merely returning to pre-Victorian times.North Somerset Council needs to get its act together and stop cutting back on many essentials in this county, most especially toilets.MARGARET LLOYD - Underwood Road, North Weston
