HAYDEN Trezise writes about how district council members mucked in to revamp the Jubilee Pool in Penzance. Similarly, Cheltenham has renovated the Sandford Park Lido and people are using both of them. Plymouth put its money into the Tinside Lido, right on the Hoe, a source of pride for a major holiday area, and Weston? We want to give our heritage away. From what I know these examples were supported by locals and local councillors who have a pride in their towns. Our councillors seem to fall down on this pride thing. The history of the Open Air Pool or Tropicana is going to be flushed away along with the potential for giving our youngsters a cheap place to go where they can stay active and out of trouble during the coming school holidays. Currently all our costs are spiralling out of control. Money for holidays and things for our kids is being put into just living. Local kids are now hanging out at the Marine Lake, having fun at the waterside. The more adventurous are jumping off the high points into the rising tides. Let the local action groups get together and revamp the Tropicana and with their local keycards give our kids somewhere cheap to hang out safely!PAUL BURNS - Sunnyside Road, Weston
