IN THE June issue of North Somerset Life magazine Nigel Ashton, leader of the council, uses 'democracy' in his Welcome article.I hope he and his fellow councillors are really democratic. Over 20,000 people, the vast majority of ratepayers, have signed a petition saying they do not want the Henry Boot proposals for the Tropicana to go ahead. Whilst councillors may be 'in touch' I doubt very much if they can honestly say they know of 20,000 people who want the development to go ahead.I understand the petition will be presented to the council at the Town Hall at 3pm on June 23. Would Nigel Ashton like the 20,000 signatories to come along (democracy in action) or can we rely on him and the rest of the council to do the right and democratic thing and reject these proposals?PETER WHITMARSH - Pendlesham Gardens, Weston
