I believe that the term 'reckless' is misguided in this case, because it was a wonderfully warm June night. Imagine your most perfect evening, with the waves lapping gently against the shoreline... that's really what it was.
Our two lost friends were clearly unaware that the currents were as they were, and it 'did for them'. But the truth is that they were not 'reckless' any more than you or I might be reckless, for if you don't know... they were enjoying themselves - we have to learn from this, but I think 'reckless' is wrong.
