A RECENT tendency for people to talk about the state of Weston roads in the mornings appears now to have a credible reason: the fare increases and timetable changes made this month. This was highlighted by passengers interviewed by local TV, some passengers complaining of a near 50 per cent price increase and saying on air they will be returning to their cars. With the railways forcing workers back on to our already congested roads and a town where not only are the road surfaces a disgrace and a danger, unless the powers we have elected can come up with some credible answers we are heading for gridlock. Can we not get the roads we need and the integrated transport system we have been promised by a succession of Governments and councils, or are we going to allow them to concentrate on selling off public assets like pools and land for short term gain to make ends meet, while generations to follow will be left nothing, including lack of career prospects because industry cannot afford our missing commonsense, foresight and innovation.PAUL BURNS - Sunnyside Road, Weston
