MY PARENTS ran a hotel in Weston from 1960-1977 and at that time there was plenty for visitors to do in Weston, especially on a wet day.Now instead of providing for the visitors and looking after the local hoteliers the local council is allowing a monstrosity to be built on Knightstone.I have also been informed by friends who live in Weston that the council is paying out an enormous sum of money to build a six foot high wall along the seafront to protect the hotels from high tides. Sandbags are cheaper!I loved my days living in Weston, but do not think I'd want to move back. There is nothing to do.I really hope that Birnbeck gets the rescue plan, I'd love to see this grand old pier brought back to its former glory.SUE MILDENHALLOak Lane, Norwich
