I am amazed how much the British public put up with and never seem to protest. This is a classic example of a local authority hell bent on saving money and 'two fingers' to the general public.Council tax has increased at an alarming rate over the last two years, but what we receive in return is a degradation in standards. We used to have refuse collected at the back door. Now we have to struggle to the pavement with it all. The risk of personal data falling into the wrong hands has become worryingly substantial and we are paying more for the privilege. Now we are told that we can no longer recycle or deposit unwanted rubbish at the Portishead Civic Amenity site, because of nesting peregrines. These birds are preventing necessary work on the cliff face from being undertaken. Whilst I agree we should look after our feathered friends, where are the alternative plans for ratepayers?Backwell is not always open when needed. Why couldn't a temporary site have been made available? Why does the local authority think so little of its ratepayers? I suppose they could well argue now that we have done without it for four or five months and there is no reason to re-open the site at all.Heaven forbid.Michael Bryant - Walton Road, Clevedon
