AFTER two wet summers it was encouraging to hear in January, from those jolly nice people at the weather centre that we could expect three months of scorching heat this summer.

No doubt many sun seekers cancelled their foreign holidays in favour of Weston.
We oldies were advised to paint our houses white, get some big shrubs to create shade, identify the coolest room in the house and ensure that a friendly neighbour kept an eye on us so that we were not allowed to shrivel up. I kid you not, this was official advice.
So here I am in my white house, surrounded by tall shrubs and sitting in a darkened room.
I find it strange that my neighbour has not yet popped in so will somebody please tell me when it is safe to come out.
