SO £100,000 was spent making Kewstoke Toll Road 'safe' while the council has decided to withdraw the small toll that actually paid for the upkeep of the highway itself. Seems very strange that our lovely local leaders would throw away such an easy bit of 'free' funding. But then again there was no need whatsoever to make the toll road safe. Putting up barriers has had the effect of adding a safety net to the end of the pier. No one will jump off it unless they know they can't be harmed. Why can't the users of the toll road understand that if they break the speed limit they risk being seriously or fatally injured. Accidents happen, that is a fact of life, but if you don't wish to die then don't go flying along a cliff edge road at double the 20mph and then complain when you find yourself in the sea at the bottom of the cliff being hauled out by the coastguard. It is a sad indication of the "I am not responsible for my actions" culture we now have in this country. The same applies for those people who seem to be unable to understand that deep mud means danger. If you cannot control your speed, or resist the temptation to fling yourself head first into a bottomless pit of ooze then please stay at home and stop putting other people in danger when they have to rescue you.IAN BAKERLocking Road, Weston
