MARTIN Woolls' plan for a Weston Marina is very seriously flawed. First, there is the visual intrusion. To have any effect at all the Phase 1 'New Harbour Wall' and the Phase 2 'West Pier' would both have to be substantially higher than the existing promenade and Knightstone, obstructing views of Brean Down, Somerset, Devon, Steep Holm, Barry, Flat Holm, and Cardiff. Even the sea itself would not be visible.Secondly, the capital cost would run into hundreds of millions of pounds. Thirdly, the running costs would be in the millions of pounds but the income from mooring fees would be trivial. For comparison Bristol Floating Harbour costs millions per year to run and the income from moorings is only a quarter of a million per year.If we had Mr Woolls' Marina as a free gift it would still cost every household in Weston an additional £50 a year in council tax to keep it going.M J ROGERSBaker Street, Weston
