I have just received my copy of Clevedon Times.I rarely respond to your editorials, but I was absolutely shocked by your headlines 'Shut down market'; and the unbelievable comments by Anne Benn of Books and Puzzles.Firstly, I would like her to go outside into Queens Square and look at her shop front. The windows are ( and have been for some time) completely whitewashed with the message 'Clearing out'- how is that attracting people to our town? Then can she tell me where I can buy:1. Fresh fish.2. Fresh fruit and vegetables.3. Plants for my garden and pots.4. Ladies clothing at reasonable prices (especially underwear).5. Menswearand yes I could go on and on. We do not have these shops in the village. The market has friendly stall holders, who go out of their way to make their customers welcome, and are happy to sell small amounts, which is an important factor to single people.Yes, I do agree Clevedon isn't like it used to be - but don't blame the market! It provides a meeting place for lots of people who really enjoy this once a week atmosphere.Go ahead and criticise the water feature, and the lack of activities - but is that the fault of the market traders? I think not!The cafes and The Present Company can be the start of the revival; perhaps Books and Puzzles could try to follow their pleasant atmosphere and window displays - after all they are in a prime central position in the square. Visible to everyone that uses the area.R Blease, Via email
