I HAVE lived near Marine Lake nearly all my life, 42 years, and it has always had mud in it but the council used to dredge it every year or two at the end of very busy summer seasons or just before the next season started to keep the levels down and this seemed to work.I was looking forward to seeing the 'New Improved' Marine Lake when Redrow, as part of their conditions in developing Knightstone Island, finished the work they were doing.I walked along the causeway last night - it is the shoddiest set of work I have ever seen and the actual walking area on the causeway is dangerous. My daughter tripped on one of the joints. What if that had been an elderly person? The finish is laughable and the whole of the causeway leaks both on the seaward side and on the lake side. We watched as the tide was just lapping the top of the causeway and water was pouring in through the metal casing on the lake side. The walls are scruffy and incomplete, the 'new' ramp at Knightstone end and the sloping section into the lake is very poorly finished and the sand - well what can I say, Marine Lake used to be a haven for families because it had some of the softest, nicest sand but now Redrow have left it full of stones. Why has our illustrious council allowed this to be reopened when it is clearly not finished? The most laughable thing that Redrow did was 'dredge' the lake when in fact all they did was pump the mud from one side of the causeway to the other! The same mud is now coming up on the rocks and is coming in further around at Anchor Head and then when they thought that they had dredged enough they sent in a digger to pat the mud down. Please look into this, this is our town that is rather quickly being destroyed, in fact I will go as far as to say the demise started the day they took the welcome sign with the donkey on top of the toilet block at Marine Lake away.MELANIE JAMES - Via email
