AS a Weston ex-pat I wish to express my sorrow at the loss of the pier. As a retired ex-Avon (and Somerset) firefighter of over 32 years, I would like to know just why the pier's firefighting watermain was never ever maintained.It was rusty and useless in 1976 when we tried to use it on a fire exercise.
