WE have just read your article in the Mercury regarding the former chapel on the old RAF Locking site. Your reporter makes out that the parish church in Locking is currently closed. We are very happy to point out, in the spirit of Mark Twain who wrote that rumours of his death were 'much exaggerated', that St Augustine's, Locking, is not only very much open, but is thriving. We welcomed 120 people to our service last Sunday and have just begun a regular time of worship in Oak Tree Park for the residents there. We, like many other residents, are carefully watching progress over the creation of Locking Parklands. We hope and expect that the Christians in Locking will be involved in creating a church that addresses the needs of the new residents in Locking Parklands in the years to come. We welcomed your reporter Mark Mistry here a few weeks ago and hope that we will be able to regularly keep your readers updated about what we are doing in Locking.REVDS RICHARD AND ANNE LEE - Locking
