WILL anything be done about the ongoing parking chaos in Weston town centre? The council went through an elaborate consultation exercise on a new controlled parking zone - and then dropped the idea. Last week's Weston and Somerset Mercury confirmed that a stalemate had been reached. The police say they are doing their best, but have other priorities. The council say it is not their problem unless the Government force them to act. And so local residents and traders are left, as usual, to suffer the consequences of indecision and bureaucracy. North Somerset Council collects hundreds of thousands of pounds every year from parking charges. North Somerset councillors have just pocketed £250,000 extra in pay. Would it be too much to ask that they put some of this cash into enforcing parking restrictions, benefiting town centre residents, of which I am one, and traders alike?MIKE BELL - Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Weston
