AS a relative newcomer to Weston I am still learning about its history and mourning the loss of such fantastic structures as Birnbeck Pier, which will hopefully be resolved at last. However, I am amazed at the short-sighted approach of local councillors for their idea of flood defences - a cheap quick fix seems to fit the bill. Do they not realise that this is not the answer?Weston was a genteel Victorian seaside resort, which our local councillors seem to be doing their best to mar with ugly out-of-place structures that only they approve. What happened to democracy? And do they really think that a splash wall would stop a giant wave? Get real and give Weston a proper answer, not one that suits because it is convenient! Some of us really do care so perhaps it's about time someone listened! MS J MASSABristol Road Lower, Weston
