FOLLOWING last weekend's carnival procession and fair, I wish to thank the people of Nailsea for supporting one of our most successful events. The street collection raised over £700, which will be split between two deserving local charities - Springboard and the Nailsea MS Centre. We hope proceeds from stalls at the fair will be equally healthy, thereby providing 1st Nailsea Scouts with the vital funds we need to continue offering fun and adventurous activities to our young people.I also wish to thank our fundraising committee - the Friends of 1st Nailsea - and all the volunteers who helped with marshalling the procession or manning stalls. Without their hard work, we couldn't put on an event on this scale every year. Finally, I would like to put out a challenge to all the pubs, sports clubs, businesses and other organisations in our town. If you enjoyed soaking up the carnival spirit as a spectator this year, why not consider putting together your own entry next year? There are categories for walking groups as well as floats and we can provide you with guidance on how to organise vehicles and insurance if necessary. 1st Nailsea is proud to put on the carnival as a community event and the more people that take part, the merrier.STEVE HARRIS - Chairman, 1st Nailsea Scout Group
