If the takeover bid for parts of Wraxall were to be successful, people on The Elms, etc., would have to pay the considerably higher town rate for Nailsea, compared to that now paid to Wraxall parish. Furthermore, the only way the existing residents of Nailsea would benefit from a cross subsidy from The Elms, is if none of the rates raised from The Elms, was spent on The Elms. I feel sure that Wraxall people, if they put their minds to it, could come up with capital and revenue projects every bit as expensive as those in Nailsea. In the meantime, Wraxall residents will continue to support the shopping facilities in Nailsea, Clevedon and Portishead and all the public facilities we already pay for via our North Somerset Council precepts.
