I WAS extremely surprised to read in your front page article of June 28 Cllr John H Clark saying the company which owns A P Burts' paper bag factory should only build 110 homes - that is 10 less, so that a new village hall could be built in the space, which they would donate to the town. Isn't he aware the current owners of A P Burts are not the original family, who may have had loyalty to this community?Secondly, as one of the long-suffering people who live in Portishead and read the announcement in our paper earlier this year that the council wished to make cuts and were looking at closing Somerset Hall and the Avon Way Hall, please tell me where the economic sense is of closing one or two existing halls, which by the way are used on average at least once and sometimes twice a day, and building another new hall. This is a complete nonsense to me. Oh! Sorry! I am using commonsense here and a council which has the audacity to inflict the Cabstand fiascos on the rest of Portishead obviously is absolutely bereft of any commonsense! I feel the council should concentrate its 'mind' on the traffic infrastructure.ANNE LANE - Via e-mail
