YOU published a letter on September 25 from Faith Moulin about the possibility of a separate parish council for Claverham.
Yatton councillors have asked me to respond.
In July 2007 the council decided that an advisory committee carry out a feasibility study to investigate the development of a separate parish council for Claverham and all other alternatives.
A questionnaire issued later that year to gain information for the parish plan included a question about whether Claverham should have a separate parish council.
Of those who responded to this question just over half of those in favour were from Claverham and most of these were in the 50 plus age range. In September 2008 the advisory committee said they needed more information to inform the next step.
The parish council agreed to support their request that 100 houses were randomly selected in Claverham and residents asked whether North Somerset investigate the possibility of a separate parish council for Claverham.
This survey is being carried out now and will help decide the next step.
No costs have been incurred by Yatton parish. The final decision will only be made after full consultation.
No change can be made unless there is a clearly demonstrated need.
