I HAVE lived in and around Weston for over 40 years and haven't seen 40 year's worth of improvements to the town! We need a simple swimming pool on the front, with a movable roof it is not too expensive, for town's children and visitors. Cafes and small shops around it would make it so attractive. Big complex entities like the Boot envisaged is inappropriate for the size of the town, its ethos and, more importantly, its position on the beach. Weston is a seaside town and needs a swimming pool for all weathers to attract more people here. We need a park and ride as parking is becoming more and more difficult. The front has some character as it has been built up over time and so represents different decades and it needs to be kept in scale. Then bring back some of the operas which once came and were very well patronised, and some occasional classical music, then some of us will use our valuable asset, the Playhouse, a lot more. We need our tastes serving, too! Most of all Weston needs a council that is prepared primarily to serve the area! We have to use some means to choose councillors and it is unfortunate that political parties is the route we have to use. It seems, from your columns, that the town has a dominant group of small-minded people with huge egos who jostle for political power rather than put the needs of the district first. Year after year I read of hundreds of millions of pounds being put into discussions about fancy projects that never come to fruition. We are keeping their instigators rich! Enough! Please, build the Tropicana, as so many have asked, as above, and as soon as possible. Then, councillors, get down to serving the public, not your party nor yourselves.IRENE THREASHER- Via email
