I WISH to know if all senior employees of the highways department travel to work by helicopter, because if they travelled the local roads by car as I do they would push to get all the potholes repaired. Instead of surveyors travelling the roads and painting circles around the holes, which then wears off because it takes so long for the repair to take place, why not just let the workmen go out with a wagon of tarmac and fill every hole they see? Surely this would be more cost effective. You don't need someone on £30K to be able to spot a hole in the road. I can't see how money can be an issue with all the road tax collected and the speed cameras or money machines the road agency has installed. Ordinary people see all the problems, but the elected representatives or highly paid managers never seem able to produce results. I wonder why?P BAXTER - Moorham Road, Winscombe
