I REFER to your report in the Weston Mercury of December 15, and wish to congratulate you on its accuracy.I was however amazed at the comments reported as being made by Councillor J Crockford-Hawley after the meeting. I find it inexcusable that a councillor should make such comments regarding the meeting of another council. Was it because the town council had the effrontery to disagree with his proposals for Weston's sea defences or was it a case of arrogance and total disregard for the opinions of all others if they conflict with his own? I would like to remind the councillor that the members of Weston Town Council were elected by the taxpayers of the town and in the case of the proposed sea defences reflect the opinion of the majority of the residents of the town. The members of the town council are all unpaid (unlike North Somerset councillors) and devote a large proportion of their time working for the benefit of all who live in Weston.I remind the councillor that he was at one time a town councillor also and should know better than to make such remarks about a meeting that he left well before it finished. Perhaps he would like to apologise to the town council, its hard working officers and councillors.COUNCILLOR K G MORRISVia e-mail
