I HAVE lived in many places in the UK and travelled extensively both in the western world and the Far East on business.

I moved to Weston three years ago for family reasons and have quite enjoyed myself here in many ways.

What I have not enjoyed is the very poor state of the road and pavement maintenance; the non-enforcement of street parking regulations; and the dangerous amount of dog waste that litters our pavements.

These issues are quite amongst the worst I have come across in my travels anywhere in the civilised world. It is my opinion that this fall in standards is partly due to the somewhat aggressive approach by councillors when residents of Weston raise such matters either in your columns or elsewhere.

Instead of listening and acting on residents' concerns, we get negative corporate responses. Maybe councillors should remember that they were voted in to serve?
