I am appalled that Portishead town councillors are refusing to take over the management of three new bus shelters solely because they are unhappy that the wrong colour blue was used when they were painted. This mistake was reported back in February and for once I find myself in agreement with North Somerset Council in its stance not to replace or repaint the shelters. The extra burden to the tax payer of almost £4,000 cannot be justified when the colour is perfectly acceptable and in fact, is more cheerful than Portishead Blue. Surely when the shelters age and need repainting, the colour can be corrected at that stage but certainly not before. I would rather the money was spent on filling in a few potholes!I cannot comprehend how some councillors can think colour is more important than taking responsibility to secure provision of service. If those councillors who wish to coerce North Somerset Council in this way feel that strongly, let them re-paint the shelters from their own pockets or resign.
