MAY I, on behalf of Paul Holman Associates, express my sincere thanks to everyone concerned with the Variety Show at The Playhouse theatre on Easter Saturday. Having been part of a very successful pantomime at The Playhouse last year I was looking forward to playing this lovely theatre once again. The reception from the family audience was fantastic and I know from comments made that everyone went home happy. It is very heartening to realise that a show aimed unashamedly at a family audience can still succeed. All the artistes involved, from the youngest member of the Tina Counsell dancers, six-year-old Ellen Walker, to the oldest, Gordon and Bunny Jay, were delighted with the reception.I cannot close without thanking the staff at The Playhouse, both front of house and stage crew. In a recent poll by touring shows the theatre was voted the friendliest and most welcoming in the whole of the country and once again lived up to its reputation.I know that the theatre patrons are aware that The Playhouse is a little gem and will continue with their support and I look forward to my next visit in August. Even as the bulldozers are levelling Knightstone, I can say, hand on heart: "Variety ain't dead, it's alive and kicking at The Playhouse."BERNIE CLIFTON - Via e-mail
