I WOULD like to congratulate the Tories on their recent success, together with the promise to look into and reverse, where necessary, some of the emotive subjects of late. However, the rules regarding dogs on the sands, etc., should stand, so don't lose your bottle on this one Councillor Ashton. Dog owners are in the minority and should adhere to the wishes of the majority, who want dogs to be kept under control when in public places, i.e. on a lead. There is nothing worse than over exuberant dogs running up to other people in their enthusiasm, chasing other people's balls and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Also of course, there's the problem of dogs' mess and the danger to children, who are especially at risk. Of course some owners are very responsible and I applaud them. However, nobody should have the right to take their dogs to public places and inflict them on the rest of us. Some owners bring problems on themselves by having large energetic dogs and living in totally unsuitable accommodation, such as a flat or a home without a large secure garden. Perhaps we should bring back dog licences.M S DAVIS - Victoria Quadrant, Weston
