IN VIEW of the recent events, it is obvious that Nigel Ashton has no interest in regenerating Weston and cultural heritage has no value to him.

Very soon, our town will end up with no sports facilities (the Tropicana is already a no-go area), no theatre, no Winter Gardens and now no museum.

Regrouping all the council offices in one place makes sense but this is a serious decision and open consultation with proper studies should take place, looking at all the implications. If purchasing the building in Clevedon goes ahead, the redevelopment of Dolphin Square will never happen and Weston will decline further.

The decision to close the museum and sell the premise has one purpose only, to raise money for the purchase of the building in Clevedon. A museum is there to serve the community and it is not meant to make money. It is a farce to consider an ambulant museum which will be more costly in the long run. At least, in its present location it is providing some revenue.

We have elected our councillors to serve our community and not to follow party politics. We are supposed to be in a democracy but there is nothing democratic in the way our affairs are conducted. If our councillors are not prepared to listen to us, I would suggest that we withhold our local tax to the council and our payments go to a special account of which funds will be freed when we are satisfied with the outcome.

May I remind our councillors that Weston is the biggest contributor in local taxes in North Somerset.

As for the Weston Mercury, please continue to report on the antics of our councillors.
