FOR many months now a team of volunteers have tried very hard to make Weston a more attractive place for residents and visitors.Try telling that to the mindless yobs who decided to rearrange the lamppost troughs of flowers on Saturday night through Sunday morning in Worle High Street. These idiots, for that is what they are, decided to pull down three of the 12 foot-up troughs, by climbing the lampposts and ripping them down. They also decided to rip out all the plants in the planters by Lloyds Bank.Needless to say there wasn't and there hasn't been for years a police presence in Worle High Street on a Saturday night as they are all deployed in the centre of Weston, dealing with the night-time economy. The beat manager for North Worle is on annual leave, the beat manager for Milton and Worle High Street was seconded to the Ashton Court Festival, and the PCSO's were on a weekend off, so the whole of Worle had no cover at all. Perhaps we should have a Mosquito to deter the vandals, nobody else will bother.Perhaps people living in Worle should consider some type of civil action, by withholding their portion of the council tax for the police, until we get the type of service we are all looking for. We could even think about our own security officers for this area.Communities are entitled to a certain standard of policing and we are not getting it.I apologise to the people of Worle for there are many of us trying to make it a better place, but this really does stretch your tolerance to the limit.DAVID J EVANS - Chairman Flower Power
